    Course Policies - 01 May 2020

  • 2 May 2020 10:38 AM | Derek Baker (Administrator)

With the imminent opening of the golf course we are all looking forward to the opportunity to enjoy some fresh air, sunshine and somewhat limited social interaction. We would like to ensure that we continue to enjoy these privileges for the remainder of the summer.

As a follow-up to yesterday's e-mail issued by Purcell Golf we are reminding members of the necessity to adhere to these policies. In the event that you did not receive the e-mail, please see the attached notice. (KGC Opening Date.pdf)

The Board fully supports the efforts of Purcell Golf to get the course open and the policies that have been put in place. Failure to comply with these measures could result in health authorities ordering the closure of the course. We have already received reports of members not following these measures. The actions of a few may impact everyone, so we ask that you familiarize yourself with these policies and continue to keep up to date as policies may need to change over time.

    Reminders:

The clubhouse and all areas marked with yellow tape are off-limits.

You must check in with staff before going to the range or playing, no exceptions.

Tee times must be booked on line at Tee-On Tee Time Booking. Do not ask staff to book your tee times, their focus needs to be on keeping things running and keeping common areas and equipment properly sanitized.

Abusive and argumentative behavior directed at staff is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

All tournament and events including Ladies Day and Men's Day are suspended until further notice.

Failure to follow these guidelines may result in members being asked to leave the premises. Continued incidents may result in suspension of membership privileges.

We are all looking forward to getting back to our favourite form of recreation. The policies developed by Simon and team are designed to keep everyone safe and in compliance with public health regulations. Hopefully we will get through the summer without any further disruption to our daily routines. We hope to see you out on the course over the next few weeks.

    April Update

Purcell Golf informs us that they plan on opening in early May, subject to current weather forecasts and work required by the grounds crew to prepare the course for play. The course has sustained more winter damage than usual so this will require some extra time from Tim and crew to work their usual magic.

With the current COVID-19 situation it is difficult to know for sure if the course opening date might be further delayed. Golf courses are classified as non-essential services under current Provincial Health Orders. Unlike most other provinces, non-essential services may still operate in BC under certain conditions. This is why some courses in the lower mainland are still open while others have decided to remain closed. We will have to wait and see where things go from here.

AGM – The AGM was previously scheduled for May 12th.  With current restrictions on public gatherings we will defer the AGM until further notice. At the moment the agenda consists of routine society matters, so unless things change we have no pressing need to conduct the AGM.

    Call for New Board Members

We will have some openings for new board members as we re-focus our efforts on managing a member- centric society. Our immediate needs include leading our membership program in addition to co-ordinating member events. Send us an email at directors@kimberleygolfclub.com if you have an interest in joining the board.

Update - Investments by Purcell Golf – If you have been following the communications related to the sale of the golf course, you are aware that there is a binding commitment by Purcell Golf to invest a minimum of $175,000 in improvements to the course and facilities by mid - April. Given the current situation, they have not been able to move forward with contractors and suppliers as planned. Purcell has requested an amendment of our agreement to extend the dates for the $175.000 investment and starting the new holes by a maximum of one additional year. We are in the process of granting this extension as it seems reasonable in the circumstances. All other terms and conditions will remain unchanged.

Monthly Payment Plan Members – As previously indicated, we are moving the monthly payments to a new provider. We are now ready to do this in time for the April payment cycle. A separate e-mail will be sent out to each monthly payment plan member to confirm membership details and provide further instructions.

    Event Planning

Our events for the season are now posted on the new Members website (kimberleygolfclub.com). In addition to club events there are a couple of other events with more to be added as we receive details. It may yet be necessary to cancel or reschedule some events so please refer back to the website for up to date information.

If you require any further information please send an e-mail to directors@kimberleygolfclub.com.

    PRESS RELEASE

For Immediate release: December 12, 2019

    For further information, contact: info@piecanada.ca

Purcell International Education (PIE) and the Kimberley Golf Club (KGC) are pleased to announce that a closing date of January 13, 2019 has been confirmed for PIE’s purchase of the golf course lands from KGC. The sale is the result of 18 months of cooperative negotiations between PIE and KGC to structure a deal that will secure the future of the club while providing PIE with land to build its in-development international boarding school, Purcell Collegiate.

PIE President Duncan MacLeod summarized the unique nature of the deal as follows: “We view this deal as a partnership, not a purchase. It was designed from day-one to be mutually beneficial to PIE and KGC and we jointly engaged the process to ensure the best interests of the KGC membership were not only secured but enhanced. We look forward to working with KGC to build four new, world-class holes for the course prior to beginning school construction on what will become the former site of holes 6, 7, 8, and 9.”

KGC President Ron Christensen had this to say: “The Kimberley Golf Club is pleased with the progress made to date by PIE. We look forward to continuing the transition process and the final documents being signed. The board appreciates the continuing support and patience of our members through this process.”

The focus for both PIE and KGC now shifts to transition planning and gearing up for the 2020 golf season. PIE and KGC will be hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony and launch event on January 15 at which time several exciting announcements including more information on pending investments to be made by PIE to improve the golf experience for KGC members and the general public.

PIE and the KGC executive would like to thank KGC members for their patience and ongoing support of the process that led to this one-of-a-kind agreement.
